Palawan Mission Trip

JT Sung 2006. 11. 16. 15:04

November 5, midnight, seventeen students from Asia Bible College rode a Victory Liner Bus heading for Pasay, Metro Manila. They brought with them large bag’s and, as each smile shows, eager hearts.

Five hours of sleeping in uncomfortable chairs later, they arrived at the terminal. A couple of minutes ago passed and Pastor Gho and Sung also arrived.

The team divided into groups of four and each took a taxi to the airport. Before entering Pastor Sung told us to put on our black ABC t-shirts. Right then and there in the side walk the men dug into their bag’s, took off the ones they were wearing and wore the said uniform of course the ladies had able to change

Checking in was a bit of trouble. Our bag’s were scanned, weighed and deposited. They would ask us to remove our belts, watches and even shoes for scanning. But at least this tight security would make one feel safer. Though sister Charisse loss her watch in the process. Instead, she had got another person’s watch.

We had breakfast inside the airport while waiting for our flight.

Finally, the 8:20 flight bound for Puerto Princesa was now boarding in the runway.  Even having a Philippine airline plane for a background. Maybe this was to make the person who would view the photos believe this was the plane we rode.

We got a board Cebu Pacific air bus. Found our sits settled down. Each had offered a short prayer. And then take off!

The flight was fun! They even had on – board games. The one we played was “show me”. The steward would ask for something and for the passenger that would hold the item up first would win a prize.

The steward asked for a passport, brother juanito help up sister Grace’s. he won a tumbler!

An hour and forty five minutes later, we landed on puerto princesa city. The team was met by Pastor Chris Lapurga and Rev. Peter Kim. We drove off to Pastor Kim’s house. There, we were able to meet his wife, Esther. We had juice and rested for a while.

A few kilometers away were Evangel Bible Institute. A school under Pastor Kim. There was a lot of coconut around the campus so some of the students asked if they could have some. one of the students there kindly climbed a couple of trees, collected young coconuts, opened them and the ABC students had their fill.

After resting we hit the road again. The destination was Palawan Pentecostal Bible School. It was a hundred and thirty kilometers away on a bumpy and dusty road.

Midway, the coconut juice had its effect. We were calling for a pit stop. The driver pull over near a grassy land with a couple of trees beside the beach. The men run towards that part and had relief.

We had ice cream at Narra. That was such comfort from the heat!

The trip took three hours. We arrived at PPBS and we were greeted by warm and hearty lunch.

After eating, Pastor Sung called for a meeting. He gave the team a few words of advice and encouragements. He then gave the meeting to Pastor Gwen Panes Pamiar, the academic dean of PPBS. She an overview of the week’s activities, the people we’ll meet and things to be expected.

The team rested ofterwards. While Sone took their baths, the rest came together and sung a song, played basket ball and shared stories.

Ti was dinner then service. The night’s speaker was Pastor Domingo Luntad. He shared his testimony that moved each heart that inclined. A testimony that prepared each spirit for the mission.

                                                                        MARCO GARCIA

NOVEMBER 7, 2006 Tuesday at Palawan

The day started with morning devotion, after which Sister Easter Kim wife of Pastor Peter Kim, missionary in the area gave a very information and encouragement lecture on “The Christian family”. She emphasized that having a strong Christian family will result in a good ministry. Praise God for the lesson learned would be a great help in our ministries.

After breakfast, Pastor Domingo Luntad, the sectional presbyter and other local pastors in the area led the procession as we started the journey towards the first  the first church in Kanang-kaan, three hours like up and down muddy and slippery mountains to reach the place. We started the service after few minutes of greetings with the people gathered around and refreshing drink from fresh young coconuts. We started the service so inspired by the presence of the Holy Spirit with Pastor Gideon Cauton as the message while members of the team were involve in other parts of the service. The sty dents from the Spilan Bible Institute gathered the children and taught them outside giving them balloons afterwards. We had lunch at 2:00 PM and started the hike to another church passing by a sick person to pray for a healing.

Searching a church in Siteo Leang we proceeded to Barangay Acacia where we had another inspiring service with people gathered around. We left Acacia Bethel Assembly at 5:45 PM grouping in the dark finding our way through the slippery and muddy mountains back to Ipilan Bible Institute. We had our supper and ended at the day’s activities by visiting a hot spring pool with no sufficient to allow us to swim.

November 8, 2006

We started our day in devotion with the student’s of Palawan Pentecostal Bible School (PPBS). Brother Juanito shares the life of Zachios and encourages us to continue on seeking God in use our influence in blessing people. The challenge was posed to everyone us we start a long journey towards the mountain.

We ate our breakfast after the devotion and then pack our thing which is good for two days and three nights. We are told that we will sleep in the mountains together with the tribal people. The excitement went high!

The journey started at 7:30 in the morning. The early raise of the sun greeted as we travel the road (if you call it road). We never expected the road was really hard. The treks were so steep. The long and winding road are muddy and smelly. Worst, it was so wet and sticky that made walking slow and dangerous. Long, sticks were needed to balance the body and walk safely.

The sun went high and its raise penetrated our bodies. Sweats were over flowing and blade grasses scratched our skins. We went up and down the mountains in order to reach the church of Balintek.

We arrived at Balintek church. Every one sighed and despite weariness, we still manage to laugh and joke to each other. We chatted, sung songs and drunk buko – the official refreshment of the group.

We started that service. Pastor Sam led the praise and worship and Brother Marco shared his testimony. Moreover, I was really blessed as I heard the testimony of the Pastor of Balintek church. He spoke boldly of God’s grace, of how he was called to preach even without any education at all. Truly, it was a powerful testimony of how God uses ordinary people for extra ordinary works. I was even encouraged when a woman testified of their church’s struggles and how God intervene to preserve and protect His people. Miracles our still true today.

Pastor Jabonero preached the word but I was not able to hear it because I took over the children. Mark, EPPBS student accompanied me in teaching the children.

The children in Balintek are shy but they listen carefully as I shared him a bible story. I emphasized to them not to forget praying to God. I was fascinated to an eight-year-old child – Rene. He said he prays to Jesus every night. once again, I learned what “child like faith” really is.

I continued talking to them and learn more of their situation. Just one of them is studying. She is fifteen-years-old and in grade six. She told me that most children starts schooling at the age of ten. That is because the school is very far and they only have two teachers.

What saddened me most was that most of them are not studying.

After the service we took pictures and ate our lunch. After taking some rest, we went to our next destination – Cagisan. We again surges another tricky and muddy road, much harder than before.

We were already wet with sweats and was walking for two hours when it rained. Except for the first batch who reached the destination, all of us were wet.

Upon arrival, everyone took a bath in a creek near the Pastor’s house. Nevertheless, I did not because migraine already hit me.

We took a rest. Every one of us were in the same place in the house. I was near the group of Pastor Gideon talking to Pastor Maslok. I over heard their conversation.

Pastor Maslok shared his testimony; of hoe he cling on his faith despite of oppositions of how he victoriously over come them all, of how he survived near-death, experiences, of how he chose the gift of celibacy in order to serve God more. City pastors and bible students will be rebuked and challenged hearing Pastor’s Maslok testimony.

After our dinner, we went to the worship place. It was so dark and we were only armored with flashlights and lamps.

We waited for the members. It was a great joy as we saw lights coming from a far nearing the place. Brother Baltazar challenges the believers to hold on to their faith because no one knows the end. After the preaching of the word, our mission team prayed for the people. The spirit of God moved. one thing was impress in my heart – differences in culture, education status in the society is not really important. Love conquers all.

The service was finish; we went home to take a rest. Before I close my eyes I reminisce the day – long activities we had. I thank God for giving me an opportunity too experience to what I am experiencing now. Most of all I thank Him for reminding me so many great lessons in life…….

Still cold in the early morning the team woke up early as they can. And they start sharing jokes just for fun and to awaken their selves. At exactly 5:00 AM we need to seek God’s face through our devotion lead by our team leader Pastor Gideon and a word of encouragement by Brother Florencio just after we drink our hot coffee for just a minute. Ahhhhh!!! Shhpp!!! Ah! Again we have to start to walk before the sun will rise but first of all we take a short prayer lead by Sister Mildred. Amen!

On our way not so far we have seen a monkey and all of us are laughing because were towing jokes to each other. on our way the path we need to past became more so harder and harder for the team to moved because it’s more muddy, slippery in it’s so sticky it is not easy for the team to take off their feet from the mud. But for Pastor Mengo and Pastor Basloc they walk so fast just a normal. Wahahahah! But for us we enjoy to be like carabaos walk.

After three hours of hard walking we take a rest first in one place. Taking pictures, sharing jokes again. But one that so exciting here is that God challenge us to go to visit one church and encourage them even though its not a part of our program. That is the church in Sagipit ministered by Pastor Florencio. We arrived very tired but when we see the people waiting for us with their wide and sweet smile all tiredness has gone with fresh buko juice and sticky rice. Ay naku sarap talaga. Their we had service our MC sister Chester, Pastor Sam lead us in praise and worship also encourage them through our song saying “Mahal Ka ng Diyos” and brother Florencio encourage them with his testimony. And Pastor Berth shared the word of God just after the service we rashly took our breakfast at the same time it is also our lunch we ate pancit and can goods with the buko juice drinks. After all we need to say goodbye to the church members and with their Pastor. Quickly we have to walk again on the way to Tamboran.

On our way to Tamboran still the path is so muddy and it’s very hot with us is Pastor Basloc us our guide but he walked so fast with him are Pastor Baltazar, brother Reagan and Paul they are so ahead. They try to wait for the others shouting to them “hallo! Darasen you” but because it is very far again they were ahead. Exactly at 1 PM when they arrived at Tamboran but no one is their to welcome us so it’s very different from the other churches we use to visit because they are eager to welcome us. So Pastor Basloc went to some of the church members inviting them to come. After a few minute assistant pastor come and entertain them as the others arrive. Having rest for just a short minute then we have to start our service. Our MC brother Gold, Pastor Sam lead us in our praised and worship who again encourage them through out team song “Mahal ka ng Diyos” also the PPBS student dedicate songs with sister Mildred encourage them with her testimony and Pastor Basloc. Brother Reagan shared to us the word of God but us the Service is on going sister grace is so sleepy even brother Baltazar. While the service is on going Pastor Berth, Brother Florencio and Erickson also ministered to the children telling them stories about the life of David while Brother Marco is very busy in preparing the balloons after the service again they serve us sticky rice wrap with banana leaves and water but again we can’t stay long so we have to say goodbye again because we have one church still to visit.

On our way to one Wahig Church, for these time it’s so hard for us because the path is very nice but it is still far so we need to travel almost one hour and for these time still Pastor Basloc, Pastor Mengo and Pastor Pelipe together with them who first arrive are Pastor Baltazar, Brother Paul, Brother John 1 – 2. Pastor Chris etc. but even though were so tired if we will just see those happy faces with wide smile and great will come and still with fresh buko juice all for our tiredness slowly gone. We arrive their 4:00 PM with great welcome of Pastor Ignacio and his member. While having our rest a parrot bird came to us saying “kumusta poh kayo” Brother John 1 -2 try to take a picture but because he is very matagal the bird flew away and went to others having rest at the church. As the parrot hanging on the tree sister Chester, sister Fran, Pastor Berth and again Brother John 1 – 2 they are all taking pictures even Pastor Chris. All of them are shooting wow and also they want the parrot to touch and rest on them but luckily the parrot flew and step on the head of Pastor Baltazar all of them shooting and taking pictures but just an hour the parrot become so relational to everyone some of us can hold and touch already. Because 02it’s still early so we have to rest and some of us are sleeping. Few couples of an hour we go to the river to have relaxed in their swimming taking a bath washing our laundry. While we are in the river we enjoy and we love to stay in the water. While all the boys are enjoying swimming down the river but the girls also enjoying up side- wahahaha! The girls taking pictures also with the boys after relaxing we need to prepare for the night service while preparing the church bochered a goat for our dinner. While all of us are busy preparing brother John 1 – 2 try to be a physician that’s why we try to clean the wound of Pastor Chris bur when he remove the died skin on the side of his feet he pored out an alcohol and Pastor Chris felt the pain and keep on shooting ohh!! Hoo array!!! And all of us were disturb and laughing to John 1 – 2 because it should be the agua to be pored even to Pastor Chris because he is weeping and feeling so hot. Dinner time they serve us a goat meat. After everything settled we go to church for there service.

During our service but before we start our service the enemy try to stop our service because when all of seating down together suddenly the benches where setting down give up one of our companion sister Fran get hurt also with one of our sister but thank God for he is victoriously we move on our service. Our MC sister Mildred and pastor Domingo the presbyter welcomes our service very even Pastor Ignacio. Brother Reagan lead us into action sons “Mahal na Mahal Kita Panginoon” at the same time lead us in worship while our worship we feel the moving of the Holy Spirit and all of us love to stay in the presence of the Lord…also again we dedicate our theme song “Mahal Ka ng Diyos” also the PPBS students render songs for the Lord and to encourage them. Sister Fran encourages them with her testimony as she shared to the church member. But one says in his testimony Brother Goldy says “If we will go back and take again the same path I will just get worried hire and all of us shouting Amen. After all the testimonies Pastor Sam shared us the word of God. When we were about to end our theme leader Pastor Gideon made an altar call and all of the people responses so we are encourage to minister them by praying. Also the senior Pastor their Pastor Ignacio defect in his ear or hearing but it’s our testimony because when we pray for him for two times suddenly he feels a ;little improvement in his ear so all of us were crying to the Lord saying thank you. And we end our service so victoriously. Amen!.

After our service early we need to take a rest for another journey for tomorrow but instead of sleeping early each of us sharing stories. Jokes at the same time we try to look for a partner’s message vice versa and every thing suddenly one by one get to deep sleep. But I think that we can’t forget is that Pastor Enting hogging brother Marco while sleeping………..

November 10, 2006 was the day of departure. After 5 days of passing through the weedy and muddy way, having fellowship with the tribal brethren and sharing blessing with each other we learned the place called Iwahig. This is where one Pastor Ignacio Acat and his daughter Yolanda welcomed us with love and hospitality. It was then a Friday morning when we have to go down from the mountain. After an hour of hiking we finally reached the place where the jeepney is waiting for us ready for Epilan drive. It was more than an hour praying while riding on the overloaded jeepney. We almost half the fide when suddenly the jeep had flat tire. Glory to God, after few minutes we continue the trip and finally reached Epilan. This is where Palawan Pentecostal Bible School situated and where we spent our first and second night rest since we arrive and had the Kanangkaan an acacia mission trip. After taking all the things we left during our first and second days. We departed our brethren from the said Bible School with prayer and thanks giving and some with souvenir and would of encouragement. A time of leaving our final words of gratitude and blessing for the brethren who were with us during our missionary journeys. They were our brothers and sisters who with love and care, guided and helped us through all the days of hiking and climbing the mountains of Narra, Aborlan, and Queson. Now we have to say goodbye to them and continue our ride to Puerto almost take four hours. We haven’t yet half the trip when suddenly the right time at the rare had remove and only the time was left. It was a shocking time then out at the same tine God demonstration of His great love and protection. Perhaps it was even a time f exercising the powerful name of Jesus Christ. The car is almost going beside the highway but praise be to God. There’s really power in prayer and in the name or Jesus Christ. No one was hurt. Now after sometime of doing repair. We immediately proceeded to Puerto. It was late at room when we arrive somewhere in Puerto. A church that is nearby Palawan Crocodile Farm. Two o’clock in the afternoon when we were gladly welcomed by one Pastor and hid family by preparing a very special lunch for us. Our hearts were filled with joy. After having been with the tribal brethren sharing words or encouragement and haring the blessing with each other, God allowed us to visit some of His wonderful creation there in Palawan. It was early in the evening when Pastor Kim, Pastor Sung and Pastor Gho told us to visit Palawan Crocodile Farm. It was then nearly closing time when we begin viewing the different kinds of animal bur for some favor for us ministers of God; we have sometime extension of wandering. Glory to God we enjoy viewing His wonderful creation in Palawan. Time is limited so we have to leave the place and be ready for Evangel Bible Institute. This Bible School is where we spent our Friday right with prayer and thanks giving. Praise and thanks be to God! Our tribal mission trips accomplish.

PAUL TAGABAN

Day 11 (Relax time)

The long journey in the muddy and slippery way of the tribal areas of Palawan was already accomplished. As it was included in the itinerary of our mission trip, “The Honda bay” the group starts to prepare for it.

5:30 AM, we start the day by thanksgiving God for giving us another day to see His wonderful creation and asking His protection. Brother Marco, the youngest of the team exhorts us from the book of Song of Songs 2:4-6, reminding us that Jesus is the lover of our soul.

After having coffee as our breakfast, the jeepney come to send us the sea port going to the Honday bay. The group was divided into group composing of 6 members each. The boat where we ride of has a passenger capacity of 8 people including its driver and helper.

On our way bound to the Honday Bay. The crew helper of the boat introduces us to the several island found along our way such as Bat Island, Submerge Island and others, he also introduces to us some sign language.

After almost an hour, we arrived at the Snake Island where we having our Honday Bay.

Before we start our activities, Pastor Sing introduces to us the Korean brother who owned that Honday Bay.

The group was excited to see the different kinds fishes on the bay, so almost every body of us dive on the water with bread as a food for the fish. As we soak the bread on the water, fished with different colors approached it as food. Some fished bite us in our feet for we accidentally step on.

The organizer f the mission trip introduced to us the Banana boat. A cretin thing like a banana that has capacity of fie people and we pulled bet a motif boat speedy in a different direction. Before we ride in it, they five us first instruction. If the boat is I the straight path, every void must be in the position toward the boat. But if the motor boat turns right, the first four in front mist follow the direction but the 5th one must turn left and vice versa, almost all of us fall down in the middle. Buti na lang at they provided us life vest that cause us to float. Some of us scared but some of us enjoyed it.

After having our lunch break, we walk along the se shore trying to reach the dead ends. Some of s made t but some didn’t due to the very hot condition and it is too far. Some of us prepare to continue in watching the fishes, some played volley ball and some want to ride again on the banana boat. While the manager of that Honda Bay joyfully portray to us how to ride parachute.

All of us almost satisfied, so the team decided to return back. After almost an hour, we bound to the sea port already, the jeepney that send us tier is their patiently waiting for us. PALAWAN MISSION TEAM

Franelia D. Bagangan

Palawan is indeed one of the most beautiful places Gird had created

The 2007 graduating back of Asia Bible College had bounded to Palawan in November 6-13, 2006 for their internship. Upon arrival, they were much welcomed by the brethren there headed by Rev. Peter Kim and their family through their warm smiles and hospitality. They were accommodated and lodged at Palawan Pentecostal Bible School (PPBS).

On the first day is a revival and empowerment through the message and testimony of the AG Presbyter-Pastor Domingo Luntad. He shared his testimony before and after he became a Christian which prepared, encouragement and gave the team the passion to go and reach the tribal places of Palawan.

On their way first journey which is Kanangkaan, on the second day, they walked for more than two hours one-way in a muddy and slippery pathway but not that too difficult to pass by. They were welcomed by the brethren there with sweet smiles and coconuts. In the afternoon the settled on the next destination which is Acacia. They traveled through “saka mobile” or “tri – seki” (walking) for another two hours just to reach and minister in that place.

Glory be to God! The first journey was successful and victorious through Christ.

The second journey needs for the team to stay at the tribal places for two days and two nights. The first day destination was Balintek 2 Cagisan and the second day was in Sagipit, Taburan and Iwahig. The distance of these places is a barefooted (just like carabaos) for two hours or more.

On this journey, the team went down going back to PPBS. While on the way the devil tried attack the team by making the car left tire explode but he didn’t succeed. He tried the second time by making the right wheel flew away from its place but praise God! Again, he failed. No one was hurt

To God be the glory!

The third journey was incomparable with the first and second journey for they just rode a jeepney going to their destination. No more hiking. No more muddy, slippery and undesirable pathways, they ministered to the Sea Plane Assemblies of God Church in the morning and on the dumpsite church in the afternoon.

All the team’s tiredness, exhausted and weariness in the three days journey were all gone because they were treated by the hosts to the Snake Island and enjoyed themselves there riding the banana boat and also went the hot spring.

On this internship, the team had formed their theme song “Mahal Ka ng Diyos”and “To the Ends of the Earth”. These are the songs they sang in every church they visited to bless and minister to the wonderful tribal people of God in Palawan. As to their theme of trademark, it is “dek dek dek dek dek dek dek dek dek”. Well, there is a story behind this that only the team knows.

Generally, the internship was so successful and victorious through Christ who gave them strength and courage to move on

Praise the Lord!!!
