who is a minister (Acts 2:42)

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." 

this afternoon I 'd like to share the word of God about minister 

who is a minister & what they need? 

I tell you one story 

there is one missionary in Africa 

one day he met a lion 

of course, he cannot fight the lion 

so immediately he kneel down and pray to God 

"Lord keep me from this danger 

"Lord help me not to be eaten by this lion" 

and when he opened his eyes 

the lion also prayed to God  

"Lord thank you for this masarap food, bless this food." 

brothers and sisters 

everybody has their point of view 

they are in the same situation 

but the missionary's standpoint is not to be eaten by the lion 

and the lion's standpoint is a blessing his food 

every body has different standpoint 

for example 

there is pastor and church member and they are arguing 

you know, if you listen to pastor, he is correct 

but if you listen to member, he is also correct 

every body has their own view  

so  if pastor consider the member's side 

and also member consider the pastor's side 

then they'll have no problem 

and will have a good relationship amen 

then  who is a minister 

a minister is called by God 

we are here because of God's calling 

it's not your pastor, not your parents, but it is by Gad  amen 

as we know, apostle Paul became a servant of God  through Ananias 

but Paul did not think that he is called by man 

he says  in Galatians 1;1 

Paul, an apostle, sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father 

you know, sometimes we shake, 

because we don't have confidence from the calling of God 

a minister's pride comes from the confidence of the calling  of God 

even someone say something, surroundings are difficult 

do not be discouraged and just go on  

we are called by God and we are servant of God amen 

then in the point of God's view 

as we minister, what do we need ? 

1st) minister should love God 

there is one church pastor who quit 

so they look for a new pastor 

and they said, at least, master degree should be qualified 

and we don't want someone who has marami anak 

because if he has a lot of children 

then we have to pay a lot 

and they want a pastor 

who is 170 cm or more in height 

when I heard this one I said one word "oh man" 

but God's view is different 

in God's view 

it is not important where we come from 

he does not care of our height or weight 

he does not care of our educational background 

God only consider our love 

he verify if we love God or not 

Jesus says in John chapter 21 

"Simon, do you love me ? do you really love me? do you truly love me more than these?" 

after that he said to peter, "Feed my sheep." 

beloved ABC Students 

do you love God 

yes, God wants your love more than anything else 

and the most important for ministry is "loving God" 

2nd) minister should be a good teacher 

today's passage 

"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." 

in the early church 

the apostle's teaching of the word of God was powerful 

and the members follow the apostle's teaching 

you know, there is a power in the word of God 

people can change through the word of God 

Bible says in Rom. 10;17 

Faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. 

and Heb. 4;12 says the word of God is living and active 

so when people receive the word of God by faith 

their spirit can be revived 

and their life can be renewed. 

bible says Deuteronomy 32;1-2"Listen, O heavens, and I will speak; hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants." 

the word of God is like rain on the plants 

as plants grow through rain 

also we can grow though the word of God. 

so when we teach, 

we do not teach the knowledge of the world 

but we teach the word of God 

by knowledge of the world 

when we catch a snake, we have to hold a snake's head 

in order for it not to bite us 

but Moses hold snake's tail not head why? because God says 

by the knowledge of the world 

the wall will not fall by just marching around 

but Joshua followed the word of God 

and Jericho's wall collapsed 

so brothers and sisters 

once again when you teach to the members 

do not teach the knowledge of the world 

but we have to teach them the word of God Amen 

3) minister should pray for the members 

when we are in ministry 

as we pray for ourselves, we have to pray for the members as well 

as we pray for ourselves to  maintain our spirituality 

we also have to pray for the church members for their spiritual growth and maturity 

in the old testament, Samuel is a good example 

and in the new testament Jesus is an example in praying 

1st samuel  12;23 it says "As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you" 

and Jesus says in luke 22;31-32 "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. 

But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail 

brothers and sisters 

Jesus prayed for simon that his faith may not fail 

Samuel even confess that it is sin not to pray 

we should follow the example of samuel and Jesus 

and pray for the church members amen.. 

one day, our student came to me and said 

"Pastor there is no place to pray in ABC." 

you know, 

someone who do not pray, they ask for prayer room 

someone who has low grade, they complain to their teacher 

someone who does not really know how play the guitar, 

they blame the guitar's quality. 

but someone who really pray, does not care for the place 

they pray anywhere 

beloved ABC students 

do not complain  about your surroundings 

remember that 

ministers should pray for their church members 

even now when you pray do not only pray for yourselves but pray for your classmate as well amen. 

4)minister should bless their members 

ministers have the right to bless his members 

the Bible in numbers 6;32- and following 

God command to Moses to bless his people 

and God promise and says 

"If you bless them I will bless them" 

and this is still applicable until now 

so if you bless your church members 

god will bless them 

we have to know this one, 

blessing is God's command which is given to ministers 

that is why ministers should bless their members always 

even you don't like someone, you should bless him 

that is ministers right and duty at the same time 

you know

when you give water to the plant 

if you do it with love and blessing 

the plant will grow well and have many fruit 

but ABC plants does not grow well 

it means eva is not watering the plants with love and blessing 

maybe she said why ptr. sung assign me to give water

that is why the plants are withering 

brothers and sisters 

minister is not an easy job 

you know if you have a nice car they will say 

where did he get the money and buy such a nice car 

and if you have old car they will say 

what a shame our ptr. car is pangit 

if you wear black clothes they will say 

our ptr always go to funeral service 

if you wear bright clothes 

ptr. have a date with somebody these days 

if your sermon is long 

many member are bored and sleepy 

if your sermon is short 

maybe ptr. did not study these days 

if your ptr. preach to other church 

ptr does not care about our church 

if ptr. does not preach to other church 

our ptr walang power no body invite him. 

brother and sisters 

do not be conscious of what people say 

do not look at the people but look unto God 

just fix our eyes unto the lord 

and follow our banner, God of victory 

because God called us and we are his servant
