What is marriage (Sermon for wedding)

in the beginning, God created man 

But he saw him alone and he says 

"It is not good for man to be alone, 

I will make a helper suitable for him." 

So he made a woman 

And he made Adam and Eve in marriage 

and God officiated this first wedding 

and they are the first couple here in this world 

so we have to know this one 

marriage is God's will for those who are all grown up 

today we are here to witness the wedding of Sis. ___ and  Bro.___ 

I believe that both of them are already grown up 

And I congratulate you on this special event 

and this morning I would like to share the word of God entitled the meaning of marriage based on Genesis 2;22-24 

"Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 

The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, for she was taken out of man." 

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. 

heavenly father we thank you for the joy of this occasion 

we thank you for the significance of this wedding day 

we thank you for this important moment in an ever growing relationship 

we thank you for your presence here and now and for your presence at all times, 

we thank you In Jesus name. Amen. 

Then what is the meaning of marriage? 

1) marriage is not the goal but it is a start 

meaning marriage is not terminal station  

but it is the initial station 

I tell you one story 

there is pair of happy lover 

but after they married , they quarrel everyday 

and one day the wife saw 

the dog and cat are friendly playing 

so the wife said "even cat and dog play together 

then why we always quarrel?" 

then the husband said 

"you bind them with string and see what will happen 

may be they will fight more than us" 

"diba? before we marry we never fight 

but after marry we always fight" 

brother and sisters 

marriage is not always sweet 

and we have to know this one 

marriage is not the finished line of love 

It is the starting line of love 

so as you start this new life, 

you have to nurture your love for one another day by day 

like a seed, 

you have to nurture it by putting water everyday 

putting it in sunlight constantly 

taking care of it so it will grow well 

then it will have colorful flowers and become fruitful as well 

Like this, step by step make your love become bigger and bigger 

and as your love become bigger, your happiness and joy is also getting bigger and bigger amen 

so once again when you start your new life together 

remember marriage is starting 

not starting to quarrel but starting to love amen 

2) marriage is not looking at one another but looking forward to one goal 

in other words marriage is not facing each other but going together hand in hand 

we have to know this one 

your marriage is not accident but it is God's will 

I mean before you came out here in this world 

God already made plan for whom you will marry.. amen 

and all creation has a purpose for their life 

it has a reason for being 

God made a purpose even for wild flowers  or weeds in the mountain 

even microphonism under the ground such  insignificant thing 

has reason for existence clearly 

how much more we have reason for being and purpose for this life God has given us 

because we are the lord of all creation 

so you have to realize that there is God's purpose in your marriage 

and that purpose is to live for the glory of God amen 

you unite with love and live for God's glory that is what God's  purpose for your life  

so once again I tell you 

love is not looking at one another but looking forward to one goal 

so I want this new couple, do not face one another 

but face in the same direction 

and live for God's glory 

and ask God to intervene in your life 

it is what we call the holy love triangle 

brothers and sisters 

we are from God and we are going to God 

another word we came from eternity and we will go back to eternity 

you know when you are newly married may be your life is sweet 

but it will not be sweet forever 

the world will change 

and our circumstances will change 

our mind will change 

sometimes our promise can change 

that is why we need God in our life who is forever 

do not think that we can be happy without God 

so invite God in your life and welcome him 

allow God to intervene in your life 

then he will stand with you forever 

3) marriage is becoming one flesh 

today's passage verse 24 

"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 

and they will become one flesh." 

so marriage means two become one 

man and wife have no degree of kinship 

you know cousin has 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th degree 

even uncle also is 3rd degree 

but husband and wife has no degree of kinship 

why they have no degree? 

because they are one flesh 

then what is the meaning of one flesh? 

it means "being one in body and spirit" 

so marriage means not only becoming one in body but also one in spirit 

so it is important that you have the same mind and the same spirit amen 

then what do we have to do in order to become one flesh? 

a)we should leave 

today's passage it says "a man will leave his father and mother 

and be united to his wife," 

so before united they need one thing that is "leave" 

it doesn't means forsake your father and mother 

but it means independent from your father and mother 

when you are in marriage no more depending on your parents 

but support your father and mother and become shelter for them 

simply saying 

before you receive money from father and father 

but from now you should give money to them amen 

so we have to remember this one 

when we marry we also have responsibility to take care of our parents amen 

b)we should be united 

here united in greek means "stick with paste" 

and this paste is faith and love 

you know sand and gravel can not be united, can not be in one 

but if you put cement and water in sand and gravel 

it stick in one and it is really hard to break it 

so for united you need cement and water which is faith and love 

you lived in different place, with different parents, and different surroundings until today. 

so actually it is not easy to become one 

then how to become in one? 

use cement and water (faith and love) 

trust each other 

and love each other 

then you will overcome any difficulties in your new life amen 

you know what is the fast way from Baguio to manila? 

by bus? by taxi? by air plane? 

no it is not 

the answer is "going with lover" 

and it is true 

even though you ride air plane to go to manila 

if you ride with your enemy 

may be you feel one hour is like 10 hours 

but even though you ride Jeepney to go to manila 

if you ride with your lover 

may be you feel 10 hour is like 1 hour 

even the road is rough and the car is wigging and wiggling 

if you are with your lover 

that travel will be happy and with joy amen 

so when you start new journey 

journey with love amen? 

there is saying 

pray once when you go to war 

pray twice when you go to sail 

pray three times when you go to marry 

it means 

marriage is more dangerous than warfare 

marriage is more difficult than sailing 

that is why you have to ask God to meddle in your life 

so through the holy love triangle 

and through cement and water which is faith and love 

I wish and pray that you will make the happiest family in this world

you pour out of your blessing upon this man and this woman. 

Defend them from every enemy. 

Lead them into all peace. 

Let their love for each other be a seal upon their hearts, 

a mantle about their shoulders, and a crown upon their foreheads. 

Bless them in their work and in their companionship; 

in their sleeping and in their waking; 

in their joys and in their sorrows; in their life and in their death.
