Nothing else can But only prayer (Mark 9;14~29)

Today’s Scripture, there is a boy possessed by evil spirit 

His father tried his best to heal him but he failed. 

One day some one told him 

“You bring your child to Jesus, he will cure him.” 

So they went Jesus. 

But Jesus was not there 

He went mountain to pray with some his disciple. 

So father of the boy asked the other disciples to heal his son. 

But the disciple could not heal him 

At that time Jesus went down from mountain and he said 

“Bring your boy to me.” 

So they brought him to Jesus. 

Jesus asked his father 

“How long has he been like this?” 

And the father said, “From childhood please help us.” 

So Jesus rebuked the evil sprit 

“I command you com out of him and never enter him again.” 

Then evil spirit screamed and come out from the boy. 

After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately 

“Why couldn’t we drive the spirit out?” 

Jesus answered 

“Only prayer can do it nothing else can.” 

Brothers and sisters 

Do you believe in the power of prayer? 

Today’s scripture says that only prayer can do it nothing else can 

That is there is no other way but prayer 

Prayer can solve our problems 

Prayer changes the circumstance that surrounds us. 

Change all that is prayer 

In this world, demons try to steal, kill and destroy us. 

The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion looking for some one to devour. 

If you realize the importance of prayer and pray with your whole heart, 

You are the blessed man. 

But if you do not realize the importance of prayer that time 

you remember today’s passage, “only prayer can do it nothing else can. 

Are you temptation now? 

Do you have any problems? 

Pray to God 

Cry out to the Lord 

If you success in praying, you can overcome your temptation. 

Your prayer can defeat all the enemy 

Brothers and sisters 

As for me if I pray hard, 

I feel happy even though I have many problems 

But if I’m not praying 

I often feel unhappy and terrible even though there’s no problem 

Prayer is enlighten our burdens 

The important is prayer 

I mean our happiness and unhappiness depend on prayer 

The best way of making you and your family happy is prayer. 

If you pray- faith, hope and love will spring up in your lives 

And you can hear the voice of God. 

You can realize the secret of the kingdom of God 

The devil also knows this fact. So he interrupts our prayer. 

Devil always wants to destroy our relationship with God. 

He says “do it what ever you want exept prayer.” 

He says God knows everything your situation already. so no need to pray.” 

Brothers and sisters 

Do not get deceived that whisperings 

If you hear this voice 

Rebuke him in the name of Jesus and pray to God. 

Although God knows what we need even before we ask 

God still wants to have communication with us. 

He wants listen to our prayers 

He desires to listen to our thanks and praises 

When we communicate with God through our prayers 

We please God and we rejoice in him. 

Brothers and sisters 

When Jesus was here in this world 

He spend his life time with prayer 

He arose early in the morning to pray 

He prayed in the evening 

And on occasion, He made a time to pray all night 

He climbed the mountain and prayed 

He went out side the village to be alone with God to pray 

But again and again wherever he was he prayed 

He prayed before he multiplied the bread and fish. 

He prayed before he raised Lazarus from dead 

And today he is in the right hand of God and praying for us (Rm.8;34) 

Like Jesus we should pray all the time. 

Prayer is like battery of cars 

If you have very nice car 

But the battery is out, 

Your car is nothing but iron. 

Like this if we do not pray or fail to pray we become nothing. 

Brothers and sisters 

There is no other way but prayer 

If you pray to God sincerely then surely he will answer your prayer 

In the Bible, 

we see many testimonies where God answered prayer 

Abraham prayed to god and blessed him to prosper. 

Jacob prayed to God for the reconciliation with his brother 

and God made them in peace and friendship. 

Esther prayed to God for the protection from Haman 

and God answered him. 

Hezekiah prayed to god when he was dying 

and God extended his life for 15 years 

Elijah prayed to god for widow’s child who just died 

and God returned his life. 

And there are so many, many God answered for prayer in the Bible. 

i tell you one true story 

in korea we believe  that if boy is given birth on January 1st

we think that he is very lucky but if a girl is given birth January 1st 

we belive that she is unlucky 

Some woman is pregnant and give birth on January 1

All the family say , Oh please LALAKI but it was BABAE

So the family was disappointed specially her father

Often, she was abused by the father every day

the father would spank him many times

So the her mother send her to Taekwondo institution

so she can defend herself from her father

She grew up with so many sufferings

One day, her brother was against his father

"Why you spank my sister?"

So they fight each other because of her

And so she ran away

To make the story short

She went to USA

And married with an American

Even her husband treated her with cruelty

So later on, she divorced him

She had really a miserable life

She even tried to commit suicide

But the story is not finished yet

And for survival, she opened her own Taekwondo institute

Because she was a black belter

Finally she succeeded in her business

Do you know what is her insitute's theme?

"He can do it, she can do it, why not me."

This is her Taekwondo institute theme

When she opened the institute,

she would go to church for morning prayer every day

And prayed to God

"Lord, he can do it, she can do it, why not me.

He is happy, she is happy, why not me.

He succeed, she succeed, why not me.

She prayed to God everyday

Now she became rich

She became one among the list of 100 rich people in America.

When I finished in the bible school 

I did not become a pastor at once 

But my mother prayed all the times 

Every day she woke up early in the morning and she went to church 

And prayed for me 

Also in the evening she went to church and prayed again 

Even though it rained hard or strong wind 

She did not absent prayer meeting in the church 

She always pray in the church for me 

She always cried out to god for me to be a pastor 

She is the woman of prayer 

Because of my mother’s prayer for18 years 

I became a pastor and now I’m here as a missionary 

Brothers and sisters 

The most important thing of today and tomorrow is prayer 

I really want this church get to be church of prayer 

I want all of you become a man of prayer 

If we pray earnestly miracles will happen 

Problem will go away 

It is not because we are very nice people but because God hears our prayer 

Bible says pray continually 

God does not guarantee those who do not pray 

But if we eager to pray, the blessing of God will be given to us 

God wants to show great thing to the person who prays 

Let’s communicate with God through prayer 

Let’s make this church the church of prayer 

Pray for your family 

Pray for your children 

Because there are lots of temptations in this world 

Pray to God 

Cry out to God 

Bible says seek the Lord while he maybe found, call him while he is near 

The Lord longs to be gracious to you and your family 

He waits on high to have compassion on you and me 

There is no other way but prayer
